Luka Krajančić is regarded as the pope of Pošip in Croatia. His wines are considered the benchmark for all winemakers working with this distinctive variety.
His Pošip sur lie may only be released in very limited quantities of 3,500 bottles, yet it ranks among the finest dry white wines from Croatia. The wine is aged in large, previously used barrels on fine lees, giving it more body, juiciness and creaminess than most stainless-steel counterparts. The colour is a bright golden yellow.
Thick, abundant tears that slowly slide down the glass. Serve slightly warmer than chilled, as only at near-room temperature does it reveal its full elegance and charm. On the nose, citrus fruits and minerality dominate at first. After 15 minutes, typical Mediterranean aromas emerge—resin, undergrowth, herbs, ripe quince, honey and dried apricots. A hint of smoke and petrol lingers. On the palate, it is supple, seamless, oily and brimming with persistent freshness. The finish is long and clean.
The combination of low yields per vine and modern winemaking techniques produces wines with a refined international style that, due to their disregard for tradition, may draw criticism from fellow island winemakers. As Mr Krajančić himself says, it takes a little creativity and madness to do what he does. Even those far removed from wine geekery will recognise the warmth and aromas of the southern Adriatic islands in Krajančić’s wines—reimagined in his own way.

Luka Krajančić ist der Mann, dem es sicherlich zu verdanken ist, dass Pošip, der Stolz des Weinbaus auf Korčula, auch außerhalb Kroatiens zu Ruhm gelangt. Die Kombination aus geringem Ertrag pro Rebstock und modernen Weinbereitungstechniken führt zu Weinen mit einem ausgefeilten internationalen Stil, was bei den Inselbewohnern zu negativen Kommentaren führen kann, weil sie die Tradition nicht exakt respektieren.

Wie Luka sagt, braucht es ein bisschen Kreativität und Wahnsinn, um das zu tun, was er tut. Selbst diejenigen, die weit davon entfernt sind, Weinkenner zu sein, werden die Wärme und die Aromen der südadriatischen Insel in Krajančićs Weinen wiedererkennen, die er jedoch auf seine Weise neu interpretiert.

Das Weingut umfaßt heute gerade Mal 3,5 ha, wovon 2,7 ha aus der Familie kamen, den Rest wurde später erworben. Weitere 1,5 ha werden von seinen Freunden bewirtschaftet. Pošip ist die einzige Rebsorte im Weinberg, und die Hauptverantwortliche für den Weinbau ist seine Mutter Marija. |

Ein kleiner Keller im Haus der Familie ist mit moderner Technik ausgestattet. Die Krajančić-Weine werden unter kontrollierten Bedingungen angebaut und hergestellt. Luka war einer der Ersten, der auf Pošip die Sur-Lie-Technik in großen F ssern von 750 Litern anwendet. Die jährliche Weinproduktion beträgt 40.000 Flaschen, die meisten davon Intrada.
