Hints of spring blossoms such as primrose and cowslips, with aromatic mineral notes. Elegant and delicate on the palate, unfolding a high level of minerality that enhances the drinking pleasure. The white grape variety originates from Croatia. Synonyms include Ovnek Slatki, Ovnek Zuti, Škrlet Tusti and Škrtec. Its parentage is unknown and it should not be confused with the similar variety Kujundzusa. The name derives from ‘scarlet’ (the disease), referring to the red spots on the berry skin. The medium to late-ripening vine is generally quite resistant to many vine diseases and produces fresh, aromatic white wines with notes of hay and spring flowers. The variety is mainly cultivated in continental Croatia, particularly in the northern regions of Moslavina, Prigorje-Bilogora and Pokuplje. As a purely female variety, Dišeca Ranina serves as its pollination partner in mixed plantings. In 2016, no plantings were recorded; in 2010, there were still 61 hectares (Kym Anderson).
