The area around the Seven Kastela is widely regarded as the birthplace of Crljenak (Tribidrag)—the ancient ancestor of Primitivo and Zinfandel. Here, Ivica Kovačević and his sons established their own small winery to restore this historic grape to its former glory.
The wine opens with an exceptionally deep ruby-red hue. On the palate, spice, pepper, and vanilla notes dominate at first, followed by ripe plum and red berry aromas—particularly blueberries. The flavour profile reveals succulent plums and berries, with a finish of dried figs. The tannins are silky, the finish dry and lingering, while freshness remains vibrant. A wine of real substance that will only grow in character and complexity with age. It has a cellaring potential of at least 5 to 10 years.
An excellent match for hearty red meat dishes, game, and rich meat-based sauces. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses.

Kastel Sikuli ist ein familiäres Boutique-Weingut, das seit 2019, also seit der Ernte 2018, auf dem Markt ist. Das Weingut besitzt einen Weinberg in Kaštel Novi auf 13.000 Quadratmetern und zwei kleinere Weinberge im dalmatinischen Landesinneren mit 3000 Rebstöcken.
Obwohl Kastel Sikuli ein neues Projekt und ein junges Weingut ist, hat die Familie Kovačević Erfahrung in der Weinproduktion. Ivica Kovačević war viele Jahre lang Direktor eines der erfolgreichsten Weingüter Kroatiens und hat nun beschlossen, sein Wissen und seine Erfahrung zu nutzen, um sein eigenes Weingut zu gründen. Er gründete das Weingut Kastel Sikuli zusammen mit seinen Söhnen Ivan und Tomislav, an die er sein Wissen über den Weinbau und die Weinherstellung weitergab.
Der Namen des Weinguts geht zurück auf die antike Siedlung Sikuli, die im zweiten Jahrhundert v. Chr. von den Griechen der Insel Issa gegründet wurde. Sikuli war für die Herstellung und den Verkauf von Wein bekannt, wie die reiche Sammlung von Amphoren und Megagläsern beweist, die an der Stätte gefunden wurden. Die archäologische Stätte Sikuli befindet sich in unmittelbarer Nähe der Weinkellerei und weist auf eine lange Tradition der Weinherstellung in diesem Gebiet hin.
