At the beginning of the 2000s, extensive research revealed that the origins of Zinfandel and Primitivo lie in Croatia. Tribidrag (Crljenak Kastelanski) plays a central role here, as it is genetically identical to its Apulian counterpart and the Californian Zinfandel. Since then, the nearly forgotten Tribidrag has been regaining importance—not only as a genetic parent of Plavac Mali, which dominates the Dalmatian red wine scene. The second parent of Plavac Mali is Dobricic, which is also one of the parents of Babić. The other parent remains unknown to this day.
