Pušipel is the most important white grape variety in the region, forming the basis for crisp sparkling wines and light, aromatic whites. It also lends itself to characterful terroir-driven wines, even when aged traditionally in acacia wood. This white variety originates from Hungary. Despite many differing theories, the etymology of its name remains unknown. With 145 synonyms, it bears testament to the grape’s great age and widespread cultivation.
On the palate, refreshing notes of lemon and lime mingle with green apple. Pušipel is a crisp wine with pronounced minerality, while the finish reveals subtle hints of mint.

Einfach hat der Winzer es nicht, denn die Weinberge sind klein und schwer erreichbar. Aber das besondere Klima in der Međimurje entschädigt dafür mit optimalen Bedingungen. Hier trifft im Sommer die warme Adrialuft auf eine leichte Abkühlung aus den Alpen. Die Folge sind eine lange und hohe Reife der Rebe. Das Ergebnis sind leichte, sehr aromatische und mineralisch Weine. Die Böden aus Lehm, Sand, Ton und Kalkgestein tragen dazu bei. Die dominierende Sorte der Region ist Pušipel, die die Basis für spritzige Sekte und leichte und aromatische Weissweine ist. Auch für charaktervolle Terroir-Weine eignet sich Pušipel, sogar im traditionallen Ausbau im Akazienholz.
