The Šurle pasta shape and recipe actually originate from Italy, where they are known as "Casareccia" or "Strozzapreti" depending on the region.
In Istria, this pasta is called Šurle, named after a traditional Istrian musical instrument – the šurle. This is a typical Istrian instrument consisting of two separate wooden pipes joined by a "Didak", through which air is blown. Due to its loud sound, it is most commonly used as a dance instrument and is rarely combined with others. Tradition and culture have long been a frequent source of inspiration for many artists. In this case, traditional music and instruments inspired Karla Marić to adopt this name for her pasta.
Šurle pasta has a smooth texture and a twisted shape, making it perfect for pairing with sauces. When served with meat or prawns, it delivers richer, more intense flavours and creates a truly Mediterranean dish. Made from premium wheat flour – without egg.
